- Heat dripping in a small saucepan
- Peel, cut and dice the onion
- Fry onion until well browned (not burnt)
- Drain off the excess fat
- Add flour, pepper and salt to the onion and stir until it browns

- Add water or stock and stir until it boils
- Add sauce and vinegar
- Simmer for about 10 minutes
- Strain and serve with cutlets, rissoles, sausages etc.
