Recipe for

PLAIN BROWN SAUCE

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon Dripping
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 tablespoon Plain Flour
  • half a teaspoon Salt

  • 1 pinch Pepper
  • 250 ml Water or Stock
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Vinegar
 

You will need
A small saucepan, a wooden spoon and a sharp knife

 

Directions

  • Heat dripping in a small saucepan
  • Peel, cut and dice the onion
  • Fry onion until well browned (not burnt)
  • Drain off the excess fat
  • Add flour, pepper and salt to the onion and stir until it browns

  • Add water or stock and stir until it boils
  • Add sauce and vinegar
  • Simmer for about 10 minutes
  • Strain and serve with cutlets, rissoles, sausages etc.
